Description
‘Thelonious in Action’ is a 1958 live album by jazz pianist Thelonious Monk, featuring tenor saxophonist Johnny Griffin, drummer Roy Haynes and bassist Ahmed Abdul-Malik. The album was recorded live at the Five Spot Café in the Bowery neighborhood of Manhattan on August 7, 1958, at the same sessions that produced his album ‘Misterioso’. It features the debuts of Monk’s compositions “Light Blue” and “Coming on the Hudson”. The Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide rated the session with 5 stars.
