Description

Brasil Meets Jazz .
Jazz Samba is the first bossa nova album by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, recorded on February 13, 1962 and released by Verve on April 20, 1962. The album was the first bossa nova recording in the U.S. jazz scene and is considered one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time. Although Stan Getz was the star of the album, it was heavily influenced and influenced by guitarist Charlie Byrd. Byrd, like his drummer Buddy Deppenschmidt, had heard a lot of bossa nova on a State Department-funded tour of South America and brought back tapes that he enthusiastically played for his fellow musician. Getz was particularly enamored with the album Chega de Saudade by João Gilberto, which included bossas by Antônio Carlos Jobim. Getz and Byrd decided to record an album in this new style. The release of Jazz Samba marked the beginning of bossa nova fever in the United States, which peaked in the mid-1960s with Getz‘s next album, Getz/Gilberto. Jazz Samba reached #1 on the pop album charts, where it remained for 70 weeks, and Getz won the Grammy for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance for Desafinado. The album is an essential part of any jazz collection. Jazz Samba was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2010.
