King Of Calypso.
Harry Belafonte left his mark on American culture as a musician, actor and social activist. His career spanned seven decades and earned him numerous awards. He is one of the few artists to have received an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT). Harry Belafonte is best known for his groundbreaking music, which blended elements of folk, calypso and pop, and for his contributions to the civil rights movement. His music was popular with both black and white audiences, and he became one of the first black musicians to achieve mainstream success. One of Belafonteās most famous songs was āBanana Boat (Day-O),ā a calypso-style song about Jamaican dockworkers loading bananas onto ships. The song became a huge hit and remains one of Belafonteās signature songs to this day. Other popular songs from Belafonteās career include āJamaica Farewell,ā
